Blackout is the fourth level in Superliminal. This level gives off a scary atmosphere and the majority of the puzzles focus on navigating in the dark and illuminating areas with lights, e.g., using a bright sign to illuminate a dark maze of boxes. Also, in this level, Dr. Glenn Pierce will mostly talk about the player's feelings of worthlessness and self-doubt. The level follows the theme of a horror game, tricking the player into thinking something is chasing them.

Walkthrough[]

Show/Hide Walkthrough (SPOILER)
  • Head out of Suite E, through the reception area and into the long corridor.
  • Enter the door to the top-right that’s illuminated by the red light.
  • Proceed through the next set of doors until you find yourself in a room full of boxes, and then another room full of boxes.
  • In the room after, jump over the tables covered in blue tarp and acetylene tanks to proceed to the next door.
  • Continue on to find a dead end. Here, you need to walk into the darkness on the right side of the corridor (facing the dead end). You’ll find yourself in another parallel corridor.
  • Go straight through the door that’s partially obstructed by diet soda boxes, and through the next door.
  • Follow the red liquid trail, and as you proceed you’ll discover a gigantic, red pit.
  • Take a leap of faith to land on a wooden board obscured by the darkness or find where a plank meets the floor to the far left. Follow the boards to end up on the other side (remember to contrast the darkness of the wooden boards with the red paint of the pit below).
  • Continue to follow the red trail up the stairs and through the corridors. At one point, the door will close behind you and you might think you’re in a dead end. This is a room where one side is dark, so go straight into the darkness and turn around to find that you’ve entered a new corridor.
  • Keep going backwards until you see the arrow silhouette pointing right. Go right as it says and you’ll find a staircase.
  • Go up the stairs and follow the corridor with the recessed floor lights. Proceed into a red-lit room.
  • Take the red exit sign from behind the boarded-up doorway. Enlarge it enough to serve as a great source of light.
  • Take the exit sign out of the red-lit room, the way you came, and you’ll find a dark corridor going right. Proceed through this corridor and into a room full of boxes.
  • Jump onto the boxes to find a path within, and remember to take the exit sign with you or you’ll have to flail around in the dark! Eventually you’ll find an exit from the room. Take the exit to go to another room with a red trail.
  • Make the red exit sign huge again and orient it so that it shines on the adjacent room (beyond the glass wall). Enter the adjacent room and you’ll find that a new pathway has been revealed… above a tower of boxes.
  • Jump on the staircase of boxes to reach the top of the tower and proceed into the darkness.
  • Enter through the door and continue right, following the red trail.
  • Continue down the hallway to reach the electric generator labelled “IDEA”. Turn it on to activate the lights of the following room.
  • Proceed through the room with the dining tables, through the next hallway and through the last maintenance hallway.
  • Enter the elevator to end this level.

Elevator Poster[]

This poster has a plain, white background and a green border. In the center there is an image of an avocado half. The relation of avocados to the game is subtle, only appearing in the wallpaper of the room connected to the office (where the Dream Soda machine is) and on the whiteboard immediately prior to this elevator. The avocado-wallpapered-room is featured in every level (excluding Induction and Retrospect).

The text, placed above and below the avocado image, reads:

Enjoy Avocados
